Historic Milestones

1.
🇺🇸 Ben Shelton beat Flavio Cobolli 6–2, 7–5 to capture his fifth ATP Tour title — the first American man to win an ATP 500 (or higher) clay title since Andre Agassi at the 2002 Italian Open.
2.
🇺🇸 It was Shelton's second title of the week-after-week schedule, having won Dallas earlier in February — but the Munich crown is his first clay ATP Tour 500 and just his second clay title overall (after 2024 Houston).
3.
🇮🇹 Flavio Cobolli (seed 4) stunned defending three-time champion Alexander Zverev 6–3, 6–3 in the semifinals, striking 32 winners — his second ATP 500 final of the year after Acapulco.
4.
🏆 German qualifiers Jakob Schnaitter / Mark Wallner won the doubles title on home soil — a maiden ATP Tour crown for both players — saving a championship point in the 6–4, 6–7(4), [12]–[10] final over Théo Arribagé / Albano Olivetti.
5.
🇸🇰 Qualifier Alex Molčan reached the semifinals from qualifying — upsetting seed 3 Alexander Bublik 6–4, 6–2 in R1, then edging Daniel Altmaier 6–4, 7–6(10) and Denis Shapovalov 6–4, 6–4 before falling to Shelton.
6.
🇧🇷 19-year-old João Fonseca reached R3 by ousting seed 7 Arthur Rinderknech 6–3, 6–2 in R2 and edging Alejandro Tabilo 7–6(1), 6–3 in R1 — another milestone in his breakthrough season.
7.
🇩🇪 Teenage wildcard Justin Engel (17) pushed the eventual seed 4 path-buster Vít Kopřiva to three sets in R1 (3–6, 7–5, 2–6) — a debut-round marker of Germany's next-gen depth.
8.
🇩🇪 Home crowd energy peaked in Shelton's 7–6(4), 3–6, 6–3 R1 escape over US lucky loser Emilio Nava and Zverev's 6–3, 3–6, 7–6(2) opening-round thriller over Miomir Kecmanović.
